Understanding the diagnosis
ASD and VSD are openings between heart chambers. PDA is a persistent connection between major blood vessels. RSOV refers to a ruptured sinus of Valsalva. The effects and treatment choices differ for each condition.
Is device closure suitable?
Detailed imaging assesses the size, location and effect of the defect. A catheter device is suitable only for selected anatomy. Observation, medicines or surgery may be more appropriate in other cases.
How treatment is planned
The care team explains catheter access, imaging guidance, anaesthesia and monitoring. Adult and paediatric care need individual planning; confirm the appropriate pathway when arranging a consultation.
Aftercare and risks
Follow-up imaging checks the result. Ask about medicines, activity advice and infection precautions. Potential risks include bleeding, rhythm disturbances, residual leakage and device-related complications.
Discuss your options
Bring your previous reports and medicine list to a consultation. Ask how this test or procedure would help in your situation, what alternatives are available and what follow-up you may need.
